How to change settings

Overview:

The Settings folder contains a variety of utilities that give you information about your device and let you configure it. To change the settings, go to the Start >Settings folder and select the item you want to change.

Here's how to do it:

On a touch screen device
The Settings folder on a Pocket PC or Smartphone Professional is divided into three tabs:
  • The Personal tab contains utilities that let you change the owner information and password, and personalize the buttons, menus, input screen, sounds and notifications, and the Today screen.
  • The System tab contains utilities that give you information about the device, including the battery power, memory usage, third-party programs that are installed on the device, programs that are currently running on the device, and more. This tab also lets you change advanced settings, including the brightness of the screen, the time and date of the system clock, the gain of the built-in microphone, the orientation and alignment of the screen, and more.
  • The Connections tab contains setup screens for the various ways of connecting the device to other Windows Mobile devices, PCs, and wired or wireless networks.
On a non-touch screen smartphone
The Settings folder on a smartphone is divided into two or more screens:
  • The first Settings screen contains setup screens for your phone, sounds (ringtones, reminders, etc.), profiles, Home screen, clock, connections, security, and more. At the bottom of the first Settings screen is an entry labeled "More." Select this to go to the second Settings screen.
  • The second Settings screen contains a setup screen for accessibility, owner information, regional settings, system information, and more. Depending on which device you have and the third party programs you have installed, there may be additional Settings screens.

Changing the settings

  • To change the settings, go to the appropriate tab or Settings screen and select the utility you want to use. For example, on a touch screen device you might go to Start >Settings >Personal tab and tap on the Buttons utility to change button assignments (i.e., which button launches which application). On a non-touch screen smartphone, you might go to Start >Settings >Home Screen and change the background image displayed in the Home screen.
  • After you've made your changes, tap on OK (smartphones: Select Done) and they will take effect.
